BooginHead Philanthropy: Black Lives Matter.

Black Lives Matter.

Full stop.

And it's time to do the work of anti-racism.

In 2020, BooginHead honored Juneteenth with a half day to pause and reflect on our country's 400-year history of slavery and racial oppression, and how we could help build a better, more just world.

BooginHead has pledged to donate 100% of proceeds from our best-selling sippy cup holder SippiGrip Black on BooginHead.com to Black Lives Matter. Here's how else we're showing up.

Support for Black Lives Matter

Black Mamas Matter. It shouldn't even have to be said.

Black Mamas Matter Alliance

The Black Mamas Matter Alliance envisions a world where Black mamas have the rights, respect, and resources to thrive before, during and after pregnancy. We're right there with you. Medical bias against Black people is real, the United States is in last place among all developed nations in terms of maternal mortality, and Black women are dying two and a half times more frequently than white women in childbirth. Absolutely disgraceful. We'll be back, BMMA. Thank you for the work that you do.

This year we have supported three organizations that champion black life, prosperity, and equality. Black Americans are dying of COVID-19 at three times the rate of white people. It is more obvious than ever that racial inequity is a massive contributor to infection rate, and fighting racism is inseparable from fighting a health pandemic.

Founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin's murderer, Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US. UK, and Canada whose mission is to eradicate racism and build local community power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.

Campaign Zero uses data, research, and the principles of human rights to change the way policy serve our communities. Their policy proposals include ending broken window policing, community oversight, limiting the use of force, ending for-profit policing, and demilitarization. Like Campaign Zero, we believe we can live in an America where the police do not kill people. We are proud to support Campaign Zero.

Black Visions Collective "believes in a future where all Black people have autonomy, safety is community-led, and we are in a right relationship with our ecosystems...BLVC is committed to a long term vision in which ALL Black lives not only matter, but are able to thrive. They operate across the Twin Cities metro area and Minnesota, where George Floyd died after being handcuffed and restrained with a knee on his neck for almost nine minutes on May 25, 2020.

Black Visions Collective is a Black, trans, and queer-led organization that is committed to dismantling systems of oppression and violence and shifting the public narrative to create transformative, long-term change (@ellamosco).

Black trans lives matter. And among their many intersectional oppressions, Black Trans people suffer record levels of homelessness. The Black Trans Advocacy Coalition's COVID-19 Community Response Fund provides the transgender community rapid response funds for emergency food, shelter, utilities, transportation and health care, also free care packages that include life saving PPE, personal hygiene supplies, and referral to resources for a most vulnerable population at their point of need during the coronavirus pandemic. We are proud to support Black Trans lives, now and forever.

Listening, Learning, and Growing

The past few weeks have been a process of listening and learning for all of us here at BooginHead, and a confrontation of our many privileges - for instance, having the privilege to listen and learn about racism instead of experiencing it our entire lives.

So many businesses, large and small, are suddenly "waking up" to problem of racism when we all should have been fighting this fight from the very start.

Over the past 13 years, BooginHead has steadily grown from just me alone at my kitchen table in 2005 to my very small staff of seven, now distance-working at home during COVID-19, and with our company's growth has come a new, very welcome capability to support causes that are important to us personally and that align with the values in our company's culture.

BooginHead's Core Values

We believe in Family. Safety. Honesty. Trust. Innovation. Accountability. Partnership. Community. and You. These have been our words since 2007, posted on our office walls, guiding our decisions and culture for more than 10 years.
